Constantine won the fast tournament held in Hamilton on September 22, 2017. Congratulations!

During our AGM we kept the same board of directors but added Kaden Rashid to our executive. Welcome to leadership Kaden!

The only major change at the AGM: Under the stern direction of Robert Gillanders club members agreed to put away their chairs and chess equipment after their games. No bullying here!

Thanks to everyone who came to our AGM/Fast tournament. Now its back to um..serious chess!

Hamilton Chess Club Will Try Multiple Sections
Author: Mapleleaf / On: Saturday 01 July 2017 - 18:35:48 Read/Post Comment: 0 ::
Either on our next tournament (Hamilton Summer Series) or the one after that (August Series) we are going to try multiple sections. We've had a number of requests to try it so were going to give it a shot.

There are two reasons for doing this. 1. We are regularly getting over 20 players in our tournaments now so we should be big enough to handle it. 2. Our club has enough new players that the average rating is lower than its been in many years.

Conditions for Multiple Sections:

We need about 10 players per section because, with byes, when you get less than 6 you can get sections impossible to pair. So we will need 20 players to have two sections for example. We understand we might get some lower turnouts for summer event so we will make some exceptions for that. When sections are too small, they will be combined.

Players who requested multiple sections need to play. If the players requesting multiple sections do not play we won't continue multiple sections.

How the sections be created:

We will be looking at the halfway mark of our last few tournaments. A quick look shows that section B will be approximately U1400 as things currently stand. That number could go up, for example, if some stronger players start to play at our club.

It does seem fair that to play in group A you need to be over 1400; but, email us your thoughts if you disagree.

If you have any questions or concerns about multiple sections or anything else about our club feel free to send us an email at chesshamilton@gmail.com
